Talks and workshops for faith communities
I have given hundreds of talks and workshops in many faith based organisations and churches over many years. The spiritual aspect of life is crucial to our wellbeing. Within my own Christian tradition, I love to explore the dialogue between theology and psychology, which can be a profoundly helpful complement for spiritual growth.
-
The Bible speaks of the Christian’s sure hope - but sometimes this does not translate to an actual experience of being hopeful now. We will look at a Biblical theology of hope and some of the barriers that stop us from experiencing a deep spiritual hope now.
-
How do faith, hope and love get best expressed in marriages, parenting and in family relationships? The integration of Bowen Family Systems Theory and Biblical wisdom as it applies in the many real-life ‘balancing acts’ that are needed if we are to do relationships well.
-
Hope is a crucial part of the human experience for all of us - this talk on the psychology of hope is designed for those who are also open to contemplate the benefits of the spiritual aspect of hope in God.
-
This talk explores the impact of addictions on our lives from a Christian lens, be it alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography and including two more recent, common and damaging addictions - social media / technology and sugar/ processed food. The sense of slavery that addictions engender can feel like entrapment. We explore the neuroscience of addiction as well as strategies to break free.
-
It is normal in the Christian life to re-think and question aspects of faith. This talk presents a framework to hold onto the hope of the core message of Jesus even while we are exploring different understandings of the scriptures for other issues in the Christian life.
-
Jesus says “Do not worry”, but what do we do with our increasing anxiety? This talk explores strategies from ancient Christian wisdom and modern science to calm ourselves in a world which feels like it is in turmoil.
